Oliveira Wins Sportsmanship Award; Three Guins Earn League Honors

The Youngstown State women's tennis team had three All-Horizon League selections while senior Maria Oliveira was the recipient of the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award for the 2024 campaign, the conference announced on Thursday.
Earning first-team honors were Eliska Masarikova and Julia Marko while newcomer Elinor Beazley was a second-team all-league selection. Oliveira is just the second Penguin to win the Sportsmanship Award joining Annina Brendel (2016).
Masarikova is a three-time all-conference selection earning first-team honors in 2024 and 2023 and second-team accolades in 2022.
This spring, Masarikova has played at the No. 1 spot in the lineup and finished with a 3-3 record in league play. Marko was unbeaten in Horizon League competition at No. 2 in the lineup with a perfect 6-0 record. In her first year at YSU, Beazley went 4-2 with all matches coming a No. 4 singles.
Oliveira has been a key member of the program for the past four years. This year she served as one of two team captains. She has played in 28 doubles matches and 10 singles contests this year. She owns a 3-3 record in HL doubles this spring.
The Penguins open play at the Horizon League Championships on Saturday. First serve for their semifinal match is scheduled for 3 p.m.
