Hunt, Cote Named 2023-24 YSU Athletes of the Year

Youngstown State student-athletes Tye Hunt (track and field) and Jade Cote (women's bowling) were honored as the 2023-24 YSU Joseph F. Malmisur Student-Athletes of the Year last evening at the Scholar-Athlete Banquet in Kilcawley Center.
Other awards presented during the event included the SAAC Leadership Awards - Female Recipient: Mady Aulbach, Male Recipient: Michael Voitus, the Team Outreach Award - Women's Soccer and the Bounce Back Player of the Year Award (sponsored by NovaCare Rehabilitation) - Callie Vaudry, Women's Lacrosse and Jillian Jakse, Softball.
Student-athletes Terin Frodyma (men's swimming and diving) and Lianna Van Sice (women's soccer) served as the Masters of Ceremony's for the fun event.
Paul McFadden of the YSU Foundation thanked the Scholarship Endowment donors who were in attendance at the event.
Cote's 2023-24 Highlights: First-Team All-American, First-Team All-Region and First-Team All-Conference USA selection...helped lead the Penguins to the Final Four and a third-place finish at the event...was named the CUSA Bowler of the Month in January...was the MVP of Destination Orlando...led the country in strike percentage...ranked third in the country in scoring average and third in Baker average...won the Northeast Classic...was runner-up at the PVAMU Invitational...her 207.28 traditional average was third-highest in school history...she bowled a school-record 299 game on Jan. 20 against Norfolk State at the Northeast Classic...averaged 21.31 in Baker which was a school record (previous record was 20.37)...also set school records with 21.08 frame average (previous record was 20.37) and 57.30 strike percentage (previous record was 51.92)...Served as the team's primary anchor as the Penguins set a school record for winning percentage and finished fourth or better at 10 of their 11 events.
Hunt's 2023-24 Highlights: Finished ninth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the long jump to earn second-team All-America honors...had a jump of 7.66m at the NCAA meet...recorded a school-record long jump of 8.08m at the YSU Icebreaker...captured the Horizon League title in the long jump with a leap of 7.69m...finished runner-up in the 60m with a personal-best time of 6.75 seconds at the HL meet...won the long jump at four meets during the year.
