Youngstown State's Harry Barton and Esther Solarin were named Under Armour #HLTF Outdoor Athletes of the Week following strong performances at the NC State Raleigh Relays this past week.
Barton, a sophomore from Millfield, England, had a strong opening outdoor weekend with solid performances in three events at the Raleigh Relays. In the 400m hurdles, he ran a personal-best time of 51.35 seconds to finish third. He ranks ninth in the East Region and 21st in the NCAA in the event. He posted an outdoor personal-best of 48.77 seconds in the 400m dash to finish in the top 20 out of 87 runners. He also anchored the 4x100m that finished ninth with a time of 41.26 seconds. Â
Solarin, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, set a school-record in the triple jump with a leap of 12.97m at the Raleigh Relays on Friday. She won the event by 0.20m over Duke's Tia Rozario. The previous school record was 12.54m set last April. She also finished ninth in the long jump with an outdoor personal-best leap of 5.81m. That mark ties for fourth in school history.
Barton and Solarin will be part of the YSU contingent that will be in action at the Hurricane Alumni Open in Miami, Fla., this weekend. The Guins will also have athletes compete at the Akron Invitational and the William and Mary Distance Carnival.
