Two Penguins Finish in Top 10 as YSU Places Fourth at Lady Bison Invitational

Madie Smithco and Lizzie Saur each earned a top-10 individual finish as the Youngstown State women's golf team placed fourth in the Howard University Lady Bison Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Hawkstone Country Club in Gainesville, Fla.
The Penguins finished with a three-round team total of 924 to finish three strokes behind third-place Creighton. YSU recorded single-round team scores 311 and 301 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Monday. The Guins posted a 312 in the third and final session on Tuesday.
Smithco placed fifth individually with a three-round score of 222 (77-72-73) to earn her sixth top-10 finish of the season. The senior's one-over-par 72 in the second round featured 11 pars and three birdies as she fired an even-par 36 on the front nine. Smithco's final-round 73 included 12 pars and a pair of birdies which came at No. 10 and No. 13.
Saur finished tied for 10th with a three-round total of 227 (74-75-78) to collect her fifth top-10 finish of the campaign. The junior's opening-round 74 featured 10 pars and three birdies as she carded a one-under-par 35 on the front nine. Saur's second-round 75 included 10 pars and two birdies that came at No. 3 and No. 15.
Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished tied for 17th with a three-round 231 (79-74-78). The freshman's second-round 74 featured 11 pars and a pair of birdies which came at No. 4 and No. 12.
Playing as an individual, Adena Rugola finished tied for 35th with a three-round score of 239 (78-83-78). Titita Loudtragulngam, who was also competing as an individual, tied for 37th with a three-round total of 240 (80-79-81).
Danae Rugola turned in a three-round 245 (81-80-84) while Chaela Barnett concluded the tournament with a three-round 258 (90-85-83).
Georgetown claimed the tournament title by 23 strokes at 21 over par with a three-round team total of 873. Howard finished as the runner-up with an 896 while Creighton placed third with a 921. The Penguins finished three strokes back of the Blue Jays in fourth while North Carolina Central was fifth with a 928.
Georgetown's Georgia Ruffolo earned medalist honors by three strokes at even par with a three-round score of 213 (74-68-71). The Hoyas had the top-three finishers on the individual leaderboard.
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on March 18-19 with the Nevel Meade Invitational hosted by Cleveland State at Nevel Meade Golf Course in Prospect, Ky.
