Indianapolis, Ind. – Four Youngstown State men's basketball players garnered Horizon League postseason honors after a vote of the league's head coaches, the Horizon League announced on Monday.
Seniors DJ Burns and Ziggy Reid were named to the All-Horizon League Second-Team while senior Brett Thompson was named to the third-team.
Freshman Gabe Dynes was named to the All-Freshman Team and the All-Defensive Team. Burns was also selected to the All-Defensive Team.
This marks the third straight season the Penguins received multiple all-league selections.
Burns is only player in the Horizon League averaging a double-double with 12.9 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, and he has posted 16 double-doubles in Horizon League games. Burns set the YSU Division I rebounding record with 335. In league action, Burns averaged 14 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.
Reid leads the team in overall scoring and in league play with 14.7 points and 16.0 points per game, respectively. He also scored in double figures 25 times overall and in 19 of 20 Horizon League games. He also had six games of scoring at least 20 points.
Thompson ranked fifth in the league with 4.5 assists per game in league-only games while he averaged 14.7 points per game. Overall, he averaged 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per game, and he ranked fifth in assists per game and with a 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Dynes led the Horizon League with 61 total blocks and 2.3 blocks per game. He also grabbed 75 defensive rebounds. Dynes also set the YSU freshman record for most blocks.
