Nacogdoches, Texas – The Youngstown State men's basketball team dropped a 64-57 decision to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday evening at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Penguins fall to 2-4 overall while the Lumberjacks improve to 4-3 on the year.
Fifth-year senior Nico Galette led the Penguins with 20 points and grabbed five rebounds while Ty Harper added 11 points with five assists.
YSU jumped out to a 24-13 lead after making eight of its first 15 field goal attempts more than 11 minutes into the game.
The Lumberjacks, however, went on a 17-0 run to take a 30-24 halftime lead YSU went scoreless for the final 8:20 of the first half. YSU made just one of its last 13 field-goal attempts.
The Penguins scored the first four points of the second half to trim the lead to 30-28, and Youngstown State took a 41-40 lead after a Galette 3-pointer at the 11:55 mark.
SFA answered with back-to-back 3-pointers to spark a 12-4 run to regain the lead and expanded it to seven 52-45 at the 6:19 mark.
The Lumberjacks pushed the lead to nine, 57-48, with 3:23 left and were able to keep the Penguins at bay the rest of the game
Youngstown State returns Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center to host Western Michigan in the 2024-25 home Wednesday, Nov. 27. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.
