Kordupel, Kreps Named CSC Academic All-District

Youngstown State men's golf student-athletes Bryan Kordupel and Cade Kreps have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team for 2022-23, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
The Penguin tandem is now included on the At-Large Academic All-America ballot, which includes the sports of women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced June 21.
Kordupel and Kreps are the first student-athletes in program history to earn academic all-district honors.
Kordupel was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the third straight season in 2022-23. He became the fourth player in program history to become a three-time all-academic honoree. Kordupel maintains a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student in the engineering management program. He finished with a 3.97 undergraduate GPA as an engineering major at YSU. The Boardman, Ohio, native was also named a GCAA Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in 2020-21.
Kordupel was named Second-Team All-Horizon League after enjoying the best season of his career as a fifth-year senior in 2022-23. He competed in all 11 tournaments and 32 rounds with a team and career-best 72.9 strokes-per-round average. Kordupel's 72.9 scoring average is tied for the second-lowest single-season mark in program history. It is the lowest single-season scoring average by a Penguin since Brandon Pluchinsky set the school record of 72.4 in 2015-16. Kordupel carded a career-low, seven-under-par 64 at NKU's The Jewell on April 10. The performance is tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in YSU history. Kordupel earned four top-five finishes and seven top-10 finishes while being YSU's top finisher in 10 of 11 events during the 2022-23 season.
Kreps was selected to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the first time in his career in 2022-23. The Boardman, Ohio, native maintains a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student in the Master of Business Administration program. He finished with a 4.00 undergraduate GPA as a finance major at YSU. Kreps competed in all 11 tournaments and 32 rounds in 2022-23 while ranking second on the team with a career-best 75.2 strokes-per-round average.
Kreps fired a career-low round of 70 at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational on March 28. The redshirt senior's best finish of the season came when he tied for 23rd at the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational with a career-best three-round score of 214 (71-73-70). Kreps finished tied for 26th at the Horizon League Championships with a three-round 228 (76-73-79) in his final collegiate tournament.
