Marx, Moore Named to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

Youngstown State junior bowlers Madyson Marx and Kirsten Moore have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The teammates become the second and third members of YSU's bowling program to earn the distinction of being named Academic All-District. Marx and Moore join Sarah Florence, who was an Academic All-District and Academic All-America pick in 2021.
The Penguin tandem is now included on the At-Large Academic All-America ballot, which includes the sports of women's beach volleyball, women's bowling, women's crew/rowing, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo, and men's wrestling.
Marx became the first Penguin ever to earn First-Team All-Southland Bowling League accolades, and she was also named Honorable Mention All-American by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. The junior from Maplewood, Minn., served as YSU's primary anchor, and she set single-season school records in the traditional format for average (209.61), pinfall (11,948), matches (57) and 200 games (31). She broke the previous record for average by more than four pins, and her 20.34 overall frame average was the second-best in school history.
Marx was the MVP of the PVAMU Invitational, and she went on to be named the Southland's Bowler of the Month for January. In February, she broke school records for highest five-game set (1,137) and tournament average (227.4) at Nebraska's Big Red Invitational to earn all-tournament team accolades. Marx finished off the season by averaging 230.5 in traditional games, which led the tournament, and 20.44 in Baker frames at the Lansing Regional.
Off the lanes, Marx holds a 3.94 overall GPA as a criminal justice major. She is a two-time NTCA All-Academic scholar-athlete and a two-time member of the Southland Bowling League All-Academic Team. She has been named to YSU's President's List for having a 4.0 GPA in five of her six semesters.
Moore was also voted an Honorable Mention All-American by the NTCA after posting one of the best single seasons in program history. The Tallmadge, Ohio, native averaged 202.77, which was the fourth-best mark in school history, in traditional play. She knocked down 11,355 pins in 56 games and broke 200 in 29 games, which were all second on the all-time list behind Marx. Moore also posted the second-highest Baker frame average ever by a Penguin at 20.27, and her 20.28 overall frame average was the third-highest in school history.
Moore was also a two-time all-tournament team selection during the season, and she had four top-10 finishes. Her best finish came in the season-opening MOTIV Penguin Classic where she placed fifth to earn All-Tournament Team honors, and she was also an all-tournament pick at the Northeast Classic when she finished ninth. Her other top-10 finishes were at the MOTIV Ladyjack Classic and the Big Red Invitational. She finished off her junior season by averaging 219 per game in traditional play and 20.9 pins per frame in Baker formats at the Lansing Regional to help YSU to a runner-up finish.
Moore earned her bachelor's degree in English earlier this month, graduating in three years with a 4.0 as a member of the Honors College. She has been named an NTCA All-Academic scholar-athlete and a member Southland Bowling League All-Academic Team in both of her eligible seasons. She has been named to the President's List in all six of her semesters at YSU. Moore will begin working on her master's degree at Youngstown State in the fall.
