
Penguins To Send 12 Athletes to NCAA Prelims in Florida

The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field programs have qualified 12 athletes for the 2023 NCAA Track and Field Championship prelims which are May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Fla. The events will take place at the Jax Track at Hodges Stadium on the campus of North Florida.
Advancing for the women are Jahniya Bowers (100m), Addi Watts (Javelin) and Erin Bogard (Pole Vault). The members of the men's program who will be competing are Dominic Perry (Shot Put), Ryan Henry (Shot Put), Wyatt Lefker (Pole Vault), Dorian Chaigneau (Pole Vault), Harry Barton (400m Hurdles), Tye Hunt (Long Jump), Jakari Lomax (Triple Jump), Weston McLain (Javelin) and Zach Gehm (Discus).
Lefker is making his school-record-tying fourth appearance at the NCAA meet. He had his best performance last year when he cleared 5.29m to finish third and eventually earn Honorable-Mention All-America accolades.
Bogard will be making her third appearance which is highlighted by a career-best 27th-place finish (3.96m) last year. Gehm is making his third career NCAA appearance in the discus. He finished a career-high 20th at the event in Jacksonville back in 2019.
Perry is making his second straight NCAA appearance in the shot put. A year ago, he finished 37th with a best throw of 17.28m. Hunt and Lomax both also are making their second consecutive trip to the meet in as many years.
Penguins making their first-ever trips to the postseason are Bowers, Watts, Henry, Chaigneau, Barton and McLain.
The men's events are Wednesday and Friday while the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday.
