
Khuanrudee Third, Penguins Fifth After Day One of HL Championships

Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. -- Fifth-year senior Puthita Khuanrudee is in third place individually and the Youngstown State women's golf team is in fifth place following the first round of the 2023 Horizon League Championships on Sunday at Mission Inn Resort's Las Colinas course.
The Penguins posted a first-round team score of 317 to sit five strokes back of the first-round leader IUPUI. Cleveland State is in second place with a 314 while Oakland and Purdue Fort Wayne are tied for third after each team recorded a first-round 315. YSU is two strokes in front of sixth-place Green Bay.
Khuanrudee is in third place after firing a three-over-par 75 in the opening round. The fifth-year senior carded 15 pars and three bogeys as she shot a one-over-par 38 on the back nine. Khuanrudee is just one stroke off the lead as IUPUI's Shelby Busker and Cleveland State's Sabrina Coffman each shot a first-round 74.
Titita Loudtragulngam is tied for 16th after posting a first-round 80. The junior's opening round featured 10 pars and two birdies as she shot a two-over-par 37 on the front nine in her Horizon League Championships debut. Loudtragulngam's birdies came on No. 6 and No. 11.
Danae Rugola, Madie Smithco and Lizzie Saur each recorded a first-round score of 81 to sit tied for 20th on the individual leaderboard.
Rugola's first-round 81 included six pars and a pair of birdies at No. 2 and No. 14. After a difficult front nine, the senior bounced back with a three-over-par 40 on the back nine. Smithco's opening-round 81 included 10 pars while Saur's first round featured 12 pars.
The Penguins will play the second round of the Horizon League Championships on Monday. YSU's first tee time on Monday morning is set for 8 a.m. The Guins will be paired with Oakland and will begin the round off No. 10. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
