Pla, Mainguy Named Valeo Academic All-Horizon League

The Youngstown State men's tennis team landed a pair of student-athletes on the Horizon League's Valeo All-Academic team, the league announced on Thursday. Being selected for the 2022-23 season are Javi Gonzalez Pla and Clement Mainguy. It's the first Academic honors for both Guins.
Pla, a senior, has had a huge senior season for the Guins. Entering the final match of the regular season, Pla has won 15 matches, including 13 in dual play. Both are tops on the team. Mainguy won a school-record 27 singles matches during his YSU debut season a year ago.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
The Penguins play host to Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
