Austalosh and Kordupel Lead Charge at Wright State Invitational

Dean Austalosh and Bryan Kordupel each recorded a three-round score of 224 to tie for fifth and lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a sixth-place finish on Monday in the Wright State Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, Ohio.
The Penguins posted a three-round team total of 921 to finish three strokes out of the top five and five strokes in front of seventh-place Murray State. YSU recorded team scores of 305 and 312 in the first two rounds, respectively, on Sunday before closing the tournament with a 304 in the final session on Monday.
Austalosh tied for fifth place with a three-round score of 224 (75-75-74) to earn the best individual finish of his career. The junior's opening-round 75 featured 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 13 as he fired an even-par 35 on the back nine. Austalosh's final-round 74 included 11 pars and a pair of birdies as he shot a one-over-par 37 on the front nine. The Campbell, Ohio, native led all golfers at the tournament with a total of 38 pars.
Kordupel also tied for fifth with a three-round total of 224 (73-78-73) to earn his sixth top-10 finish of the 2022-23 season. The fifth-year senior's first-round 73 featured 10 pars and three birdies as he carded a one-under-par 34 on the back nine. Kordupel's final-round 73 saw him make 11 pars and three birdies while shooting an even-par 35 on the back nine.
Ryan Sam finished tied for 38th with a three-round 235 (77-79-79). The freshman's first-round 77 included 11 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 17. Sam's final-round 79 featured seven pars and three birdies as he shot a two-over-par 38 on the front nine.
Cade Kreps finished tied for 46th with a three-round score of 239 (81-80-78). The senior's final-round 78 included 12 pars as he posted a one-over-par 37 on the front nine. Brian Terlesky placed 58th with a three-round 243 (80-83-80). The senior's opening-round 80 featured 10 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 8.
Cole Christman recorded an 88 in the first round before withdrawing in the second session. He was able to return on Monday with a round of 82. Christman notched a birdie on the par-five No. 9 during the opening round of play.
Wright State won the tournament title by 18 strokes with a three-round team total of 882. Cleveland State finished as the runner-up with a 900 while Southern Indiana placed third with a 916. Robert Morris and Ohio Dominican each posted a 918 to tie for fourth place.
Wright State's Mikkel Mathiesen defeated his teammate Shane Ochs in fifth playoff hole for the individual title. Mathiesen and Ochs each finished atop the individual leaderboard with a three-round score of 217.
Youngstown State will now turn its attention to the Horizon League Championships, which will take place April 23-25 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
