
Penguins Place Fifth at Navy Spring Invitational

The Youngstown State women's golf team earned a fifth-place finish in the Navy Spring Invitational on Sunday at the United States Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, Md.
The Penguins posted a two-round team total of 633 to finish eight strokes in front of sixth-place Bucknell. YSU recorded a 319 in the first round on Saturday before closing the tournament with a 314 in the second and final session on Sunday.
Madie Smithco finished 18th with a two-round score of 154 (75-79). The junior's three-over-par 75 in the opening round featured nine pars and three birdies. Smithco fired a one-over-par 37 on the back nine as she made par or better on nine of her final 11 holes in the first round.
Lizzie Saur tied for 19th with a two-round 155 (78-77). The sophomore's opening-round 78 included 10 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 2 as she shot a one-over-par 37 on the front nine. Saur's final-round 77 featured 13 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 10 as she made par or better on 13 of her final 15 holes.
Danae Rugola finished tied for 24th with a two-round total of 159 (80-79). The senior carded a one-over-par 37 on the front nine during the final round as she made par or better on nine of her final 10 holes.
Titita Loudtragulngam tied for 33rd with a two-round 165 (86-79). The junior's second-round 79 included 10 pars and three birdies as she made par or better on 10 of her first 12 holes.
Christina Lewis placed 38th with a two-round 169 (87-82). The senior's final-round 82 featured eight pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 17.
Playing as an individual, Adena Rugola finished 41st with a two-round score of 173 (88-85).
Dartmouth claimed the tournament title by 19 strokes with a two-round team total of 582 (291-291). Yale was the runner-up with a 601, Navy placed third with a 605 and Fairfield finished 13 strokes in front of YSU in fourth with a 620.
Navy's Stephanie Lee earned medalist honors by two strokes at four under par with a two-round score of 140 (73-67).
Youngstown State will now turn its attention to the Horizon League Championships, which will take place April 23-25 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.
