Kordupel Earns Fourth Top-10 Finish at Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational

Fifth-year senior Bryan Kordupel finished tied for eighth individually to earn his fourth top-10 finish of the season and lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a seventh-place finish on Tuesday in the Don Benbow Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
As a team, the Penguins posted single-round scores of 289 and 288 in the first two rounds on Monday, respectively. Youngstown State finished the tournament with a season-low 283 in the final round on Tuesday. YSU's three-round team total of 860 is tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole performance in program history.
Kordupel tied for eighth with a career-best three-round score of 210 (72-70-68). The fifth-year senior's three-round 210 is tied for the ninth-lowest 54-hole score in program history. The Boardman, Ohio, native matched his lowest round of the season with a two-under-par 68 in the final round on Tuesday. Kordupel's final-round 68 featured 13 pars and four birdies as he fired a three-under-par 32 on the front nine. He has now been YSU's top finisher in seven of the eight events the team has played in 2022-23.
Cade Kreps tied for 23rd with a career-best three-round total of 214 (71-73-70). The redshirt senior set a new career-low round with an even-par 70 in the final session on Tuesday. Kreps' final-round 70 included 11 pars and four birdies as he carded a three-under-par 32 on the front nine.
Ryan Sam finished tied for 36th with a career-best three-round 217 (73-72-72). The freshman's second-round 72 featured 12 pars and a pair of birdies as he shot a two-under-par 33 on the back nine.
Conner Stevens (77-73-73) and Jacob Sylak (73-73-77) each finished with a three-round score of 223. Sylak's 223 marked the lowest three-round score of his career while Stevens matched the lowest three-round total of his career.
Sylak matched his season-low round with a 73 in each of the first two sessions. The sophomore's second-round 73 included nine pars and three birdies. Stevens' final-round 73 featured nine pars and three birdies as he recorded a one-under-par 34 on the front nine.
Playing as an individual, Brian Terlesky concluded the tournament with a career-best three-round total of 229 (75-74-80). The redshirt senior matched his lowest round of the season with a second-round 74 that featured 12 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 17.
Ball State took home the tournament title by 26 strokes with a three-round team total of 818. Butler finished as the runner-up with an 844 while Indian Hills Community College placed third with an 848. Cleveland State finished fourth with an 854, IUPUI placed fifth with an 855 and Purdue Fort Wayne finished three strokes ahead of YSU in sixth with an 857.
Ball State's Carter Smith earned medalist honors by three strokes with a three-round score of 199 (66-65-68).
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on April 10-11 with The Jewell hosted by Northern Kentucky at Elks Run Golf Club in Batavia, Ohio.
