Khuanrudee Leads Penguins at Columbia Classic

Fifth-year senior Puthita Khuanrudee finished tied for 23rd individually to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team to a 12th-place team finish in the Columbia Classic on Monday at Duran Golf Club in Melbourne, Fla.
The Penguins recorded a single-round team score of 316 in the opening round on Saturday before Sunday's second round was canceled due to high winds resulting in unplayable conditions. The event was converted to a 36-hole tournament with YSU posting a 312 in the final round on Monday for a final team score of 628.
Khuanrudee finished the tournament with a two-round total of 149 (76-73) to finish tied for 23rd. The Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, native opened the event with a first-round 76 that featured 14 pars. Khuanrudee carded an even-par 36 with nine pars on the back nine during the opening round. The fifth-year senior's one-over-par 73 in the final round included 10 pars and four birdies as she made par or better on nine of her first 12 holes. She fired an even-par 36 on the back nine during the final session. Khuanrudee has now finished in the top 25 in five of the team's six stroke-play events this season.
Madie Smithco finished tied for 41st with a two-round score of 153 (80-73). The Cranberry Township, Pa., native posted a first-round 80 that featured 11 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 16. The junior bounced back on Monday with a season-low, one-over-par 73 that included 15 pars and a birdie on No. 16. Smithco carded a one-under-par 35 on the back nine as she made par or better on 11 of her first 12 holes during the final round.
Titita Loudtragulngam finished tied for 62nd with a two-round 161 (79-82). The Chonburi, Thailand, native began the tournament with an opening-round 79 that featured nine pars and two birdies. The junior finished the event with a final-round 82 that included nine pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 15.
Danae Rugola finished tied for 69th with a two-round total of 165 (81-84). The Uniontown, Pa., native opened the event with a first-round 81 that featured nine pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 15. The senior's final-round 84 included seven pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 4.
Lizzie Saur finished tied for 74th with a two-round score of 168 (81-87). The Grove City, Ohio, native posted a first-round 81 that featured nine pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 6. The sophomore's final-round 87 included seven pars.
Texas Tech won the tournament title at three under par with a two-round team total of 571 (286-285). Princeton finished as the runner up with a 576 while Tulsa placed third with a 580. Penn State finished fourth with a 588 while Notre Dame rounded out the top five with a 589. Princeton's Catherine Rao (73-69), Texas Tech's Linyu Dong (72-70) and Princeton's Yanjun Liu (69-73) each posted a two-round total of 142 to share medalist honors.
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on March 8 with a dual match against Winthrop at Rock Hill Country Club in Rock Hill, S.C.
