The Youngstown State men's basketball team returns to non-conference action when it visits in-state foe and Mid-American Conference member Ohio, Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Convocation Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in Athens, Ohio. The game will be broadcast on 570 WKBN and ESPN+.

The Penguins continue their non-league road action when they visit Mid-American Conference member Western Michigan, Saturday, Dec. 9. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Youngstown State is coming off a 71-57 win over Horizon League foe Robert Morris on Dec. 2. DJ Burns led the Penguins with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Brett Thompson scored 17 points, Ziggy Reid posted 14 points and Brandon Rush added 12 points.

Series vs. Ohio
This is the 20th meeting between Youngstown State and Ohio in a series that dates back to 1940. The Bobcats own a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last eight contests, including an 81-79 victory at Beeghly Center on Dec. 11, 2022. The last time Youngstown State defeated Ohio was a 93-85 win on Dec. 13, 1980 at Beeghly Center. Youngstown State's last win in Athens was a 72-68 victory on Dec. 16, 1979.

Ohio enters the game with a 5-2 overall record and has won its last three contests. The Bobcats, who are 3-0 at home, are coming off a 74-73 win over Delaware on Dec. 2. Jaylin Hunter leads the Bobcats with 16.9 points per game while Shereef Mitchell is averaging 14.0 points per contest. As a team, Ohio is averaging 81 points per game and allowing 74.4 points per contest. The Bobcats are shooting 47 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-point range.

Thompson Turnin Up
Youngstown State fifth-year senior Brett Thompson has turned up his offensive production since being inserted into the starting lineup three games ago. Thompson is averaging 16 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game since his insertion. He is also shooting 50 percent (17-for-34) from the floor and 43.8 percent (7-for-16) from 3-point range.

Lovin' Lovelace
Youngstown State sophomore John Lovelace, Jr., posted his second career 20-point game in the last four contests in the Penguins 94-69 win over Cleveland State. Lovelace scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting with two 3-pointers, and eight rebounds. Over the last four games, Lovelace averaged 15 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He also shot 70.6 percent (24-for-34) from the field, 50 percent (4-for-8) from 3-point range, and 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the free-throw line.

Dynes Dynamite
Youngstown State freshman Gabe Dynes made an impressive showing against Cleveland State on Nov. 29. Dynes turned career highs with seven points and four blocks while also grabbing three rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Dynes also ranks second in the Horizon League with 15 blocks and 1.9 blocks per game.

Langdon Nearing Marks
Fifth-year senior Bryson Langdon is approaching a couple of career milestones. The Chicago, Ill., native has scored 787 career points and dished out 357 career assists. He needs just 213 points to reach 1,000 for his career and 43 more assists for 400.

Reid Rampin' Up
Senior Ziggy Reid has been on the upside offensively over the last four games. Reid is averaging 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. He shot 55.9 percent from the floor and 63.6 percent from beyond the arc.
