
Four Penguins Named Academic All-Horizon League

Youngstown State men's swimming and diving student-athletes Gavin Webb, Brenden Reeves, Soma Albert and Jasper Liekens earned Horizon League All-Academic honors for the 2021-22 campaign the conference announced on Tuesday.
A total of 37 student-athletes earned the honor of being named to the men's and women's swimming and diving all-academic teams, while 10 more were tabbed for the Honorable Mention Teams. Faculty Athletic Representatives from member institutions voted for these awards.
Albert, a sophomore, owns a 4.00 GPA in Civil Engineering at YSU. At the Horizon League Championships, he finished seventh in the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.63 seconds. Also at the Horizon League Championships, he placed fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:45.86. Both of his performances at the league meet were school records.
Reeves, a sophomore, owns a 4.00 GPA in Computer Science. At the Horizon League Championships, he finished seventh in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.52. Also at the Horizon League Championships, he finished seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 3:57.47. Reeves set the school record in the 200 IM in December at the Miami Invite.
Webb, a sophomore, owns a 3.82 GPA in Hospitality Management. Webb won the 1650 freestyle at the Horizon League Championship with a school-record time of 15:20.40. He came the first YSU men's swimmer to win an event at the league meet in program history. He also placed ninth in the 500 free at the HL Championship.
Liekens, a sophomore, owns a 3.94 GPA in Electrical Engineering. At the Horizon League Championships, he placed 14th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:05.20 and was14th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.24 seconds. His top times in each event rank second in school history.
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
