Penguins Have Strong Showing in First CSCAA National Invitational Appearance

Elkhart, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's swimming and diving team had numerous strong performances in the Penguins' first-ever appearance at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships which concluded on Saturday evening.
YSU was 14th out of 30 schools finishing ahead of Virginia Tech, UNLV, South Dakota, Evansville and South Dakota State among others. YSU tallied 166 points in its first appearance at the meet. Tennessee won the event while Ohio State was second and TCU finished third.
Aleksa Radenovic continued his assualt on the YSU record books lowering two of his marks at the event. With an impressive fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly he lowered his school mark with a time of 1:45.57. In the 200 fly, Radenovic posted a 12th-place time of 47.49 seconds. He also added an 11th place finish in the 50 fly.
Gavin Webb continuted to finish his season on a strong note. Webb finished fifth in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:17.83. Webb placed sixth in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:29.10.
Soma Albert led the way for the Guins in the backstroke. In the 200-yard backstroke Albert placed seventh with a time of 1:46.16.
Also in the 200 buttefly, Karan Raju swam the 11th fastest time with a 1:47.62 to take first in the B final.
Also in the 1000 free, Fabian Gines was 14th with a time of 9:35.75 and was 22nd in the 1000 free with a time of 16:04.16. In the 400 IM, Brenden Reeves placed 17th with a time of 3:59.10 and he finished 21st in the 1000 free with a time of 9:50.22.
The Penguins set school records in the 200 medley relay (1:22.60), 400 medley relay (3:20.24), 200 free relay (1:22.60) and 400 free relay (3:02.09) throughout the weeekend.
