Penguins Pick Up Two Big Home Wins on Sunday

Youngstown State picked up a pair of victories on a long Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. YSU opened the day with a 5-2 win over James Madison and ended the night with a 6-1 win over Saint Francis.

YSU fought hard to take the doubles point then rode that momentum into five singles victories.

In doubles, YSU won at No. 3, 6-2, but dropped a 6-3 contest at No. 2. At No. 1, YSU trailed in the tiebreaker 6-4 but closed the contest scoring the final points to take the victory.

In singles, the Guins won five contests. At No. 1, Nathan Favier cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win. David Alvarez Moreno earned a three-set win.

James Madison Recap

YSU began the day with a more than three-hour contest against James Madison. The Penguins handed the Dukes their first loss of the season with a 5-2 win.

The Penguins jumped on JMU winning the doubles point quickly. At No. 3 Mainguy and Favier picked up a 6-2 win while Fouzas and Gran won their match 6-3 at No. 1.

The singles matches featured five three-set battles. JMU picked up a straight set victory at No. 2.

At No. 1, Laurentiu Mandocescu earned a 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win. At No. 2, Favier also rallied for an impressive 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. In action at No. 4, Fouzas beat Edson Sanchez by scores of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 5, Mainguy battled back for a 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 victory.
