
Kordupel Earns Fifth-Place Finish to Pace Penguins at Tom Tontimonia Invitational

Fifth-year senior Bryan Kordupel tied for fifth place individually to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to an eighth-place finish on Tuesday in the Tom Tontimonia Invitational at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
The Penguins recorded a three-round team total of 885 to finish three strokes behind seventh-place Purdue Fort Wayne and one stroke in front of IUPUI and Green Bay. On Monday, YSU posted team scores of 302 and 298 in the first two rounds, respectively. The Guins then bounced back with an impressive one-over-par 285 in the final session on Tuesday to move up three spots on the leaderboard.
Kordupel finished tied for fifth with a three-round score of 215 (72-75-68). The fifth-year senior's one-over-par 72 in the first round featured 15 pars and a birdie on the par-four No. 8. The Boardman, Ohio, native fired a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the opening round. Kordupel's second-round 75 included eight pars and four birdies. The senior's season-low, three-under-par 68 in the final round on Tuesday featured 13 pars and four birdies as he carded a three-under-par 32 on the back nine. Kordupel made par or better on each of his first 16 holes in the final round to move up 18 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Cade Kreps finished tied for 32nd with a three-round 221 (76-74-71). The senior's first-round 76 included 13 pars while his second-round 74 featured 13 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 16. In the final round on Tuesday, Kreps fired a career-low, even-par 71 that included 10 pars and four birdies. The Boardman, Ohio, native posted a one-under-par 35 on the front nine during the final session.
Cole Christman finished tied for 49th with a three-round total of 227 (78-74-75). The senior's opening-round 78 featured nine pars and a pair of birdies while his second-round 74 included eight pars and four birdies. Christman's final-round 75 saw him card five pars and five birdies. The Boardman, Ohio, native shot an even-par 36 on the front nine during the final session.
Ryan Sam finished tied for 58th with a three-round 229 (78-80-71). The true freshman's first-round 78 featured 12 pars while his second-round 80 included eight pars and two birdies. In the final round on Tuesday, Sam fired a career-low, even-par 71 that featured nine pars and five birdies. The Canfield, Ohio, native recorded a one-under-par 34 on the back nine during the final session.
Brian Terlesky finished tied for 66th with a three-round score of 232 (76-75-81). The senior's first-round 76 included 12 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 14 while his second-round 75 featured 11 pars and two birdies. In the final session on Tuesday, Terlesky carded 10 pars.
Oakland won the tournament title by two strokes over Butler with a three-round team total of 863. Dayton and Bowling Green each posted an 871 to tie for third while Northern Kentucky rounded out the top five with an 875. YSU finished ahead of fellow Horizon League members IUPUI, Green Bay and Cleveland State. Dayton's Henry May earned medalist honors by three strokes with a three-round 210 (73-66-71).
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 9-11 with the Bucknell Invitational at Bucknell Golf Club in Lewisburg, Pa.
