Penguins Drop First Horizon League Match at UIC

Chicago, Ill. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped its first Horizon League match of the spring falling to UIC 7-0 at the XS Tennis Center.
The Penguins fall to 12-8 on the season and 6-1 in Horizon League play while UIC improves to 12-4 and 5-0.
YSU dropped a hard-fought doubles point and could not gain any momentum in singles. The Penguins won at No. 1 doubles and overcame a 5-4 deficit at No. 3 to tie that contest at 6-6. The Flames, who won 7-5 at No. 2, won at No. 3 in a tiebreaker 9-7 to earn the point. At No. 1, Tamara Teufl and Eliska Masarikova picked up 6-2 win.
In singles, Cecilia Rosas and Jessica Stanmore dropped three-set matches. At No. 2, Rosas won her first set, 6-4, before dropping the next two, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, Stanmore dropped a 7-6 first set before rebounding for a 6-3 win in set two. She dropped a super tiebreaker, 10-3 in the deciding set.
The Guins and Flames conclude their weekend series with an 11 a.m. Eastern match on Sunday.
