
Two Finish in Top Five as Penguins Place Second at the Battle at Rum Pointe

Bryan Kordupel and Kevin Scherr each finished in the top five to lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a second-place finish in the Battle at Rum Pointe on Sunday at Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links in Berlin, Md.
Kordupel recorded a two-round score of 144 (71-73) to tie for third place and finish one stroke back of the winning score. The performance marked the best finish of Kordupel's career, and his one-under-par 71 in the first round matched his career low round.
Scherr fired a two-round 145 (72-73) to place fifth, and his first-round 72 matched his low round of the season. Scherr has now earned five top-five finishes and nine top-10 finishes in his career.
The Penguins posted a team score of 296 in Saturday's first round to sit in third place after day one of the tournament. YSU recorded a 295 in Sunday's second and final round to move in front of Lafayette for the second-place finish with a two-round 591. The Penguins' two-round team score of 591 is tied for the eighth-lowest 36-hole mark in program history.
Youngstown State finished three strokes behind Bucknell, which carded rounds of 287 and 301 for a two-round 588. The Guins were nine strokes back of the Bison after Saturday's first round.
Cole Christman tied for 13th with a two-round total of 148 (76-72). The sophomore moved up 14 spots on the leaderboard with his even-par 72 in the second session.
Ken Keller finished with a two-round 154 (77-77) while Brian Terlesky posted a 166 (86-80). Playing as an individual in his first collegiate event, Dean Austalosh carded a two-round 163 (86-77).
Iona's Justin Burkhamer (74-69) and Bucknell's Jackson Bussell (71-72) shared medalist honors as each fired a two-round score of 143. Burkhamer shot a three-under-par 69 in the final round to move up 12 spots on the leaderboard for the victory.
Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on April 2-3 with the Farleigh Dickinson University Invitational at Penn National Golf Club & Inn in Fayetteville, Pa.
