Penguins Earn Pair of Wins on Saturday

The Youngstown State women's tennis team beat Western Illinois and Saint Francis on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (7-6) beat the Leathernecks 7-0 before dispatching of the Red Flashes by a 7-0 score.
Against WIU, YSU had a strong performance. In singles, YSU won all six matches in straight sets. In doubles, Cecilia Rosas and Elvira Esteo won 6-0 at No. 1. Jessica Stanmore and Claudia Barboza earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 and Maria Oliveria and Lucia Zagar won 6-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Tamara Teufl won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. At No. 2, Lucia Zagar stepped in to earn a 6-3, 6-1 victory. At No. 3, Esteo earned a 6-2, 6-1 win while at No. 4, Masarikova won 6-2, 6-0. In action at No. 5, Claudia Barboza cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory and at No. 6, Oliveria won 6-2, 6-3 in her collegiate debut.
Against Saint Francis, YSU won both doubles contests and the five singles matches that were contested.
In doubles, Esteo and Rosas won 6-4 at No. 1 while Teful and Masarikova won 6-0 at No. 2.
In singles, YSU won all five matches in straight sets. Rosas won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 1, Esteo won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, Masarikova picked up a win 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3, Stanmore won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Barboza won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
YSU is next in action on Wednesday when it plays host to West Virginia at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
