
YSU Earns Pair Of Victories on Friday; Win Streak at 4

The Youngstown State men's tennis team defeated St. Bonaventure and Saint Francis on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins beat the Bonnies, 6-1, and defeated the Red Flash, 7-0.
Against St. Bonaventure in the first match of the day, the Penguins won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 2, Joao Garretto and David Alvarez Moreno won 6-1 while at No. 3, Laurentiu Mandocescu and Wil Everett won 6-3.
In singles play, Mandocescu won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, Erik Gran won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4, Moreno won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 while Garretto won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 5. At No. 1, Vasilis Vardakis picked up a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (13-11) victory.
In the late afternoon match vs. St. Francis, the Penguins won all six singles matches in straight set and won all three doubles contests.
In doubles, YSU won 6-4 at No. 1, 6-2 at No. 2 and 7-6 at No. 3. In singles, Vardakis won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1, Mandocescu won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2, Gran cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3, Garretto picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 4, Moreno won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 and Asier Pena Ibanez won 6-4, 7-6.
The Penguins (4-4) have now won four straight and will play host to Bellarmine on Sunday. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 11 a.m.
