Khuanrudee Claims Medalist Honors at Benbow Invitational

Jacksonville, Fla. - Sophomore Puthita Khuanrudee earned medalist honors to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team at the Benbow Invitational at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club on Tuesday.
Khuanrudee carded a two-round total of 146 (76-70) to win the individual title by one stroke over Jessie Kweon of St. John's. The sophomore's one-under-par 70 in the final session on Tuesday marked the lowest round of her career. Her final-round performance is also tied for the eighth-lowest 18-hole score in program history.
Khuanrudee entered the final round two shots off the lead in a tie for fourth place. She earns medalist honors for the second time this season and for the second time in her career. She also shared medalist honors with teammate Victoria Grans at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational this past September.
The Penguins finished sixth as a team with a two-round total score of 629. YSU posted a 326 in the first round on Monday before bouncing back nicely with a 303 on Tuesday. The Guins jumped up three spots on the leaderboard with their solid performance in the final session.
Danae Rugola tied for 16th with a two-round 156 (81-75) to earn her third top-20 finish of the season. Grans tied for 47th with a 166 (86-80), Christina Lewis tied for 53rd with a two-round total of 168 (83-85) and Ally St. Clair placed 56th after recording a 169 (91-78).
The remaining four Penguins at the event each competed as individuals. Kara Raines turned in with a two-round 173 (89-84) while Jenna Vivo finished with a 178 (92-86). Britney Jonda recorded a 179 (90-89), and Tori Utrup concluded with a 184 (95-89).
St. John's won the tournament title by seven strokes over runner-up Quinnipiac with a two-round team total of 605. Austin Peay, Radford and Purdue Fort Wayne rounded out the top five.
The Penguins are scheduled to continue their spring slate April 4-5 with the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
