Khuanrudee Paces Penguins at Nittany Lion Invitational

State College, Pa. - Sophomore Puthita Khuanrudee finished tied for 14th to lead the Youngstown State women's golf team at the 2019 Nittany Lion Invitational, which concluded on Sunday at the Penn State Blue Course.
The Penguins finished 11th as a team with a three-round score of 939. YSU recorded rounds of 310 and 314 in the first two rounds on Saturday before carding a 315 in Sunday's final session.
Khuanrudee carded a three-round total of 222 (77-71-74) to earn her third consecutive top-15 finish to begin the fall season. The sophomore's one-under-par 71 in the second round, which featured nine pars and four birdies, matched her season and career low. She played her final 11 holes at five under par as she birdied five of her last eight including three straight to close the round.
After a difficult start in the first round, Khuanrudee finished strong as she birdied three of her final five holes. Her two-over-par 74 in Sunday's final round featured 16 pars and two bogeys. Through a total of eight rounds and three events this fall, the reigning Horizon League Freshman of the Year has not shot a round over 77.
Christina Lewis tied for 32nd with a three-round 231 (73-81-77). The freshman was tied for seventh following the first round after firing a one-over-par 73 that included 10 pars, two birdies and her first-career eagle on the par-five No. 18.
Danae Rugola turned in a three-round score of 242 (77-79-86) to finish tied for 59th. The freshman had a strong finish to her first round as she played her final eight holes at three under par and birdied four of her final six. Kara Raines (83-85-81) and Jenna Vivo (83-83-83) each tied for 68th with a three-round 249.
Penn carded a three-round total of 868 to win the tournament by eight strokes over runner-up Penn State. The Quakers shot rounds of 292, 288 and 288 to claim their first tournament title since September 2015. Seton Hall's three-under-par 285 in the second round was the lowest single-round team score of the event.
Samantha Vodry (High Point), Sara Fouratt (Seton Hall) and Madeline Sager (Seton Hall) each concluded the event at two under par with a three-round 214 to share medalist honors. Fouratt's four-under 68 on Sunday was the lowest individual single-round mark of the tournament.
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule Oct. 7-8 with Akron's Silver Lake Shootout at Silver Lake Country Club in Silver Lake, Ohio.
