Three Place in Top 10 as Penguins Finish Second at Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. - Three Penguins finished in the top 10 of the individual standings as the Youngstown State women's golf team finished second in the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday at Bucknell Golf Club.
YSU finished three strokes behind the winner Navy with a three-round total of 898. The Penguins' performance ranks as the second-lowest 54-hole team score in program history. Youngstown State recorded rounds of 305 and 293 in the first two rounds on Saturday before posting a 300 in Sunday's final session. The Penguins' second-round 293 was the lowest single-round team mark of the event, and ranks among the top-10 18-hole scores in school history.
Youngstown State's 12-shot improvement between rounds one and two moved them from fifth to second place as the Penguins were four strokes off the lead going into the final round on Sunday.
Puthita Khuanrudee matched her career-best 54-hole score with a 221 (73-72-76) to finish fourth. The sophomore earned her second consecutive top-five finish after sharing medalist honors at the season-opening Roseann Schwartz Invitational. Her two-over-par 72 in the second round featured 12 pars and three birdies. She played her first 13 holes at three under par with 10 pars and three birdies. Khuanrudee also had a strong start to the first round as she made par or better on each of her first seven holes, and was even through nine.
Freshmen Danae Rugola and Christina Lewis finished tied for seventh and tied for ninth, respectively, as each earned their second top-10 finish in as many tournaments. Rugola fired a three-round 223 (74-77-72) while Lewis turned in 224 (79-73-72). Rugola's two-over 72 on Sunday included 12 pars and a pair of birdies. Lewis' career-low 72 in the final round featured 13 pars and two birdies. She also carded four birdies during Saturday's second round.
Playing as an individual, Tori Utrup recorded a career-best three-round total of 232 (78-81-73) to tie for 25th. The junior's third-round 73, which marks a career low, featured 13 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 13. Jenna Vivo tied for 33rd with a three-round 236 (79-74-83) while Victoria Grans tied for 35th with a 237 (83-74-80). Vivo's second-round 74 matched her career low and included nine pars and four birdies as she played her first nine holes at two under par. Grans' 74 in the second session featured 12 pars and a birdie on the par-three No. 16.
Navy swept the team and individual titles as Shannon Gould won medalist honors with a three-round 217 (73-70-74). She finished two strokes ahead of Lehigh's Addy Douglas (219) and three shots in front of Wagner's Elise Keane (220). The Midshipmen used rounds of 297, 297 and 301 to win the event, and had four golfers place in the top 10.
Youngstown State will continue its fall schedule on Sept. 21-22 with the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational at the PSU Blue Course in State College, Pa.
