YSU Wraps Up Vegas Trip With Win Over UTEP

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Youngstown State women's tennis team capped off their annual trip to Las Vegas with a 4-3 victory over UTEP on Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Penguins (3-3) won four of the six singles matches to rally for the victory after dropping the doubles point. Winning singles matches were Lia Khamassi at No. 2, Cassandra Moraleja at No. 3, Elvira Esteo at No. 4 and Claudi Barboza at No. 4.

At No. 2, Khamassi rallied for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Erandi Martinez. At No. 3, Moraleja beat Vanessa Valdez in a three-set battle, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. At No. 4, Elvira Esteo came back to beat Kathleen Percegona 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Barboza was the lone winner in straight sets beating Yvettee Van Oijen, 7-5, 6-1.

YSU is back in action on Friday when it plays host to Toledo. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Streetsboro, Ohio.
