YSU Drops 4-3 Dual Opener at Duquesne

Harmar, Pa. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Duquesne on Saturday at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness of Pittsburgh.
The Penguins (0-1) won three singles matches against the Dukes (1-0), but dropped two of three doubles matches to lose the doubles point.
Winning at singles were Joao Garretto at No. 1, at No. 2 Vasilis Vardakis and Matthew Kritzinger at No. 5.
At No. 1, Garretto came from behind to defeat Adam Blasinsky. Garretto lost the first set 6-3, but won the next two 6-4 and 7-5 to earn the victory. At No. 2, Vardakis picked up a 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 win over Chris Corrao.
At No. 5, Kritzinger earned a 6-4, 6-2 straight set victory over Dominic Lea.
Duquense picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to claim the point. YSU earned a victory at No. 3 as Kritzinger and newcomer Jonas Ken Suzuki won 6-3.
The Penguins are next in action on Friday when they play host to DePaul at the Boardman Tennis Center.
