Penguins Lose Hard-Fought Match to South Dakota

Orlando, Fla. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 decision to South Dakota on Friday in Orlando, Fla.
YSU won three singles matches in a five-and-a-hour marathon match. The deciding point was at No. 6 singles as the Coyoyes (6-8) picked up the win.
Winning matches for the Penguins were Annina Brendel, Sofia Macias and Nehel Sahni.
At No 1, Brendel won 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 over Milica Pavlovic while Macias won an identical 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 decision over Emma Kranendonk. Sahni tied the match at three with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Maria Pandya.
The decisive match was a close contest at No. 6 between Ana Stroe and Anastasia Bondarenko.
Stroe won the first set 6-2 before dropping the second 7-5. In the third set, Bondarenko won 12-10 to claim the win for South Dakota.
YSU returns to action on Friday, March 27 when it plays host to Northern Kentucky at the Boardman Tennis Center.
