Penguins Drop Pair of Matches on New York Trip

The Youngstown State men's tennis lost a pair of matches on a quick trip to New York over the weekend. The Penguins dropped a 7-0 decision at St. John's late Friday night before losing 6-3 to NYIT on Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins (2-4) picked up a big win at No. 1 doubles against the Red Strom and Hugo Morth dropped a hard-fought match at No. 1 singles.
At No. 1 doubles, the YSU tandem of Morth and Yossi Dahan defeated No. 49 Vaidik Munshaw and Lucas Hejhal by an impressive 6-1 score. St. John's won the other two doubles matches to claim the point.
In singles, Morth dropped his first set 6-3 to Daniel Skripnik before winning the second set 6-4. Skripnik won the third-set supertiebreaker 10-8. St. John's won the other five singles matches in straight sets.
Against NYIT, Morth and Matthew Kritzinger earned wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
YSU returns to action on Friday when they travel to Saint Francis (Pa.). The dual match against the Red Flash is set to being at 1 p.m.
