
Strong Second-Day Surge Puts Penguins In Third Place

Rochester, Mich. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team is in third place at the Horizon League Championships following five top-eight individual finishes on Thursday at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
In the 500-yard freestyle Viktoria Orosz was third while Madison Aranda placed seventh. In the one-meter dive, McKenzie Stelter finished third, Lydia Scheringer was fifth and Megan Siford placed eighth.
Through the first two day, YSU has scored 145 points. Oakland has jumped out to the lead with 243.5 while Milwaukee is in second place with 209.5. Wright State is in fourth behind the Penguins with 128 points while UIC is in fifth with 114.
Orosz swam a program-best time of 4:53.06 in the finals and missed second place by .10 seconds. UIC's Brie Hines won the event with a meet-record time of 4:50.36. Aranda had a time of 4:58.16 to finish a solid seventh.
In the one-meter dive, Stelter had a finals total of 259.85 to finish third while Scheringer scored a 258 to place fifth and Siford had a 236.80 to finish eighth.
Bec Stafford rocked the B-final with a 295.60 to win by 44 points and have the highest round of the finals. But in the prelims she was ninth with a 245.25 and did not reach the A final. Despite having the highest finals performance by 20 points, she ended up ninth.
In the 200-yard IM, Zsani Csado placed 10th with a time of 2:06.49. It was a career-best performance for Csado and ranks as the second-fastest 200 IM in school history. Senior Hannah Reynolds finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.23 seconds. She had a career-best time of 23.99 seconds in the preliminary round.
In the 200-yard freestyle to end the night, YSU had the second-fastest time in school history at 1:35.48.
On Friday, the Penguins will be in action in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breastroke, 100-yard backststroke and concluded the night with the 400-yard medley relay.
