
Guins Smash 800 Freestyle Relay Mark on Opening Night

Rochester, Mich. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team opened up the Horizon League Championships strong setting a school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay at the Oakland Aquatic Center.
YSU finished a program-best third in the race with a time of 7:27.56, which broke the mark of 7:36.57 set last year by 9.01 seconds. Oakland was first with a meet-record time of 7:17.13 while Milwaukee was second at 7:23.62.
Sophomore Madison Aranda swam the lead off leg, sophomore Viktoria Orosz was second in the pool, Zsani Csado was third off the block while Kolbrun Jonsdottir was the anchor.
Aranda opened the relay with a 200-yard time of 1:52.82. Orosz had the fastest 200 with a time of 1:49.99. Csado turned in a 1:51.86 while Jonsdottir closed it out with a 1:52.89.
In the 200-medley relay, Orosz, Hannah Reynolds, Csado and Jonsdottir finished seventh with a time of 1:44.47.
After the opening night, the Golden Grizzlies are first with 74 points, Milwaukee is second with 66, Wright State is third with 64 and YSU is tied with UIC, Cleveland State and Green Bay for fourth with 56 points.
Events on Thursday include the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 1-meter dive and 200-yard freestyle relay. Preliminary rounds will start at 10 a.m. while the finals are at 5:30 p.m.
