The Youngstown State women's swimming and diving team announced that Isabella Davis from Antelope, Calif., and Taylor Tofil from Struthers have signed National Letter of Intent to join the Penguins program starting this fall.
Tofil was a co-captain at Cardinal Mooney High School as a senior. She was a two-time Division II Ohio State Championships qualifier. Tofil advanced to the state meet as a sophomore and a senior. In 2015 she finished 20th with a time of 59.82 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle. In 2013, she also finished 20th in the event with a time of 1:00.27 in the 100 fly. She had a career-best fifth-place finish at the district meet as a senior which was held at Cleveland State's Busbey Natatorium.
A member of National Honor Society, she set school records in the 100 fly (59.75), 100 backstroke (1:02.55), 200 IM (2:18.89) and 500 freestyle for coach Tom Boniface at Mooney. She is first swimmer from Cardinal Mooney to sign a National Letter of Intent with YSU.
Head Coach Matt Anderson said her main contributions to YSU will be in 100 and 200 butterfly, the 100 back and the 200 IM.
Davis is a middle-distance freestyle swimmer who has clocked some impressive times in California. She has competed in the 100 free, 200 free, 500 free and been a member of the relay teams swimming for Oakmont High School. She has top times of 1:56.57 in the 200 free and 5:08.34 in the 500 free.
She maintains a 4.2 GPA and will join the Honors Program at YSU in the fall.
Anderson said Davis will make an immediate impact for the Penguins in the pool in the mid-distance freestyle events.
"Taylor and Isabella will add to the depth of an already strong class for the fall of 2015," Anderson said. "We're excited to see what the addition of these five athletes will contribute to the recent success of the program as a whole."
They will join Megan Stelpflug, Natalie Laurence and Haley Fisher who signed with the program in the fall.
