Guins Play Host to Cleveland in Battle Of Horizon League Unbeatens

The Youngstown State men's tennis team clashes with Cleveland State on Saturday at the Boardman Tennis in battle of Horizon League unbeatens. Both team's are 2-0 in the Horizon League entering the weekend. First serve is set for 5 p.m.

Ironically, five teams are still undefeated as Green Bay, Valparaiso and UIC are all 1-0.

The Penguins (6-9 overall) opened Horizon League play with a win at Wright State and last Sunday defeated Detroit. Cleveland State (11-5) has won six straight matches and reached the Horizon League Championship final last year. CSU plays at Duquesne on Friday afternoon.

YSU last defeated the Vikings on March 31, 2012 by a 4-3 score. Last year the team's played in the Horizon League Tournament semifinals with CSU prevailing 4-2 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Vikings won the regular-season match 6-1. The last match at the Boardman Tennis Center was a 4-3 Cleveland State win in March 2013. 

The Guins have won three straight and only have five regular-season matches remaining, including Saturday's tilt. 

So far Remi Chancerel, Silviu Mistreanu and Victor Pereira have started Horizon League play strong winning both matches. Chancerel is 2-0 at No. 1, Mistreanu is 2-0 at No. 4 and Pereira is 2-0 in the six spot. Through the two HL matches, the Guins are 8-4 in singles play.
