Penguins Cruise to 7-0 Win At Green Bay; Only Unbeaten League Team Remaining

Green Bay, Wis. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team improved to 6-0 in Horizon League play following a 7-0 victory over Green Bay on Sunday at the Western Racquet & Fitness Club.
The Penguins (13-8) now need to beat just UIC or Valparaiso to earn a share of the Horizon League title. Two wins will give the Guins their first outright regular-season conference title in school history. A win over the Flames on Saturday will secure the No. 1 seed at the Horizon League Championships for the Penguins.
On Sunday, Detroit beat previously unbeaten UIC, 4-3, and both squads enter the final weekend with one league loss. The Penguins beat the Titans earlier this year.
YSU won for the seventh straight time on Sunday afternoon. The Penguins won all six singles matches in straight sets and picked up the doubles point quickly.
At No. 2 doubles, Nehel Sahni and Annina Brendel won 6-0 while at No. 3, Dominika Lackova and Sofia Marcias Mendoza won 6-2.
In singles play, Marta Burak won 6-2, 6-1 over Stephanie Londre at No. 1. Lackova fought to win the first set 7-6 over Olivia Headford before picking up a 6-2 win in the second set.
At No. 3, Brendel won 6-0, 6-2 against Samm Pedersen while Sahni cruised at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1 over Lauren Miketinac. At No. 5, Julianna Heino won 6-4, 6-3 over Rachael Menos and at No. 6, Mendoza won 6-1, 6-1 over Maria Neff.
YSU will play host to UIC on Friday at the Boardman Tennis Center. First serve for the contest against the Flames is set for 5 p.m.
