The Youngstown State women's tennis team will be in action twice this weekend at the Boardman Tennis Center. On Saturday, the Penguins will play Oakland at 5 p.m. and on Sunday, they entertain Detroit at 8:30 a.m.
The Penguins (8-8) enter the Oakland match after opening up Horizon League play with a 6-1 win at Wright State. The Golden Grizzlies (2-11) enter the contest with a 1-1 conference record after sweeping Green Bay and dropping a 4-3 decision to Milwaukee.
YSU has won the past two matches against Oakland, including a 6-1 win at the Boardman Tennis Center in 2013.
Detroit (10-7) opened Horizon League play last week by sweeping Green Bay and Milwaukee. The Titans have won four straight matches and play at Cleveland State on Saturday night.
The Penguins have split a pair of 4-3 matches with the Titans the past two years. Last year Detroit won 4-3 while the Guins won the previous match at the Boardman Tennis, 4-3, in 2013.
Senior Marta Burak returned to her No. 1 singles position last week and earned wins against Dayton and Wright State. Also picking up wins in the two matches last weekend were Dominika Lackova at No. 2 and Sofia Mendoza at No. 5/6.
This spring, Annina Brendel leads the team with 11 wins while Burak has 10. Burak owns a 10-2 mark in dual play this year with one loss being a retirement. Lackova has won eight matches so far this year.
