A trio of strong freshman had standout performance at the Horizon League Championships so the future looks very bright for the YSU swimming and diving program.
Freshmen Viktoria Orosz, Madison Aranda and McKenzie Stelter all had multiple top-five finishes against a strong field at the Horizon League Championships. YSU had eight top-five finishes thanks to the trio at the event, the most in school histoy.
- YSU defeated Cleveland State, Valparaiso, Niagara and Saint Francis (Pa.) in dual meets.
- Orosz placed second in the 200-yard freestyle, third in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 200-yard backstroke at the Horizon League Championships.
- Aranda placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle, fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
- Stelter was fifth in the one-meter and three-meter diving events. At the NCAA Zone C meet, Stelter was an impressive 29th out of 53 divers.
- Hannah Reynolds (100 breastroke) and Ashley Dow (100 backstroke), Lydia Scheringer (3-meter dive) and Megan Siford (1-meter dive) also had top-eight finishes.
- The Penguins set eight individual school records during the year. The records came in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle, 200-yard butterfly, 200 IM and 400 IM.
- YSU also set new school standards in the 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay and 800-yard freestyle relay.
- Set records in three of the five relay events at HL Championships (200-yard medley, 200-yard freestyle, 800-yard freestyle).
- During the year, Orosz had 24 first-place finishes in her events and set five school records.
- The record that Orosz broke in the 100-yard freestyle had been held since 1986.
- During the year, Aranda won 15 events and set three school records.
- YSU had 13 top-eight finishes at the league meet and 21 in the top 16.
- Posted 18 swimming times that rank in the top five in school history, two diving scores that ranked in the top five and all four relays had school records.
