S&D: Penguins Win Seven Events in Dual Finale Against Bowling Green

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team won seven events against a strong Bowling Green team on Friday at the Beeghly Natatorium. Viktoria Orosz won three events, Lydia Scheringer won twice and Madison Aranda picked up individual wins for the Guins.
Orosz won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.41, winning by a second-and-a-half. Orosz won the 100 free with a time of 52.89 seconds winning that event by almost four seconds. She capped her impressive individual night by placing first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.92 winning that event by almost five seconds.
Aranda won the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:29.63 finishing first by more than four seconds. She was second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.26 losing a narrow decision to Jordan Bullock at the wall. Aranda also was second in the 100-yard butterfly in another tight race posting a time of 58.46 seconds just .11 behind Estela Davis Ortiz.
Senior Ashley Dow, who was competing in her final home meet, was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.97 seconds just missing out on first behind Bowling Green's Franziska Wohlert.
Scheringer had one of the best dual performances of her career winning the one and three-meter events. Scheringer had a score of 272.84 to finish first while Glick was second with a 258.60.
In the three-meter, Scheringer had a 262.43 as McKenzie Stelter was second with a 249.68. Stelter rebounded strong after not counting one of her six dives.
The Penguins ended the night on a high note with an impressive swim in the 200-yard freestyle relay. YSU won the event as Kolbrun Jonsdottir, Jana Janson, Chelsea Malone and Orosz posted a time of 1:39.04 to take first by just over a second.
Bowling Green earned the victory in the dual by a 177-122 margin over the Guins.
The YSU divers are in action on Sunday before the Penguins head to the Horizon League Championships later this month.
