Orosz, Aranda Place Third, Fifth in the 500 Free at HL Championships

Brown Deer, Wis. - Youngstown State freshmen Viktoria Orosz and Madison Aranda finished in the top five in the 500-yard freestyle on Thursday at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
Orosz had a school-record time of 4:53.86 in the event to place third while Aranda clocked in at 4:56.27 to place fifth. The Penguins picked up 30 standings points in the race thanks to the two swimmers.
Orosz was among the top two swimmers most of the race before UIC's Brie Hines finished strong to win with a conference-record time of 4:50.67 while Milwaukee's Natalie Johnson was second at 4:52.50. Orosz and Johnson led the field for the first 300 yards before a strong final charge in the last 200 by Hines gave her the win in the event.
Aranda had a steady performance and was among the top five swimmers throughout the swim. Green Bay's Stephanie Garvin was fourth with a time of 4:55.72. Of note, six of the top seven swimmers were all freshman.
To conclude the night, YSU was sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:48.53. Ashley Dow (back), Hannah Reynolds (breaststroke), Aranda (buttefly) and Orosz (freestyle) broke the school record by .04 seconds.
In the team standings, the Penguins have 166 points and are in fifth place. Oakland has surged to the lead with 297 points while Milwaukee is second with 234, Green Bay third with 227 and UIC is fourth at 175.
In the 200 IM, Reynolds posted a career-best time of 2:13.19 while Rachel Shipp also had a new career best at 2:13.71.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Jana Janson led the way with a time of 24.45 seconds while Kolbrun Jonsdottir posted a personal-best time of 24.47 seconds. Senior Chelsea Malone had a time of 25.34 seconds in her final Horizon League meet.
In the 200 IM, Dow placed 24th with a time of 2:12.42 seconds. Reynolds clocked a season-best time of 2:13.19 while Shipp had a personal-best time of 2:13.71 in the event.
The third day of the Horizon League Championships gets underway on Friday morning with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke.
