Multiple Penguins Victorious in Route Over Niagara

Niagara Falls, N.Y. - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team won 15 of the 16 events this past Saturday against Niagara to give the Penguins a 196-99 victory over the Purple Eagles at Niagara University.
In the meet, YSU captured their first victory in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.84. From there the Penguins took off and received victory's in the next eight events. In the 1650-yard freestyle, Madison Aranda (17:35.54) and Megan Stelpflug (18:21.78) finished first and second in the event. Jana Janson came away with a first place victory in a tight finish winning by two hundredths of a second with a time of 25.49.
Aranda tallied two more first place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (54.21), and again in the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.60). This would give her a total of three victory's on the day.
Zsani Csado came away with two first-place performances of her own in the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.42) and in the 100-yard butterfly (58.62).
Freshman Haley Fisher placed first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.39) and in the 200-yard IM, capturing a couple of first place finishes herself as well.
Hannah Reynolds finished with a time of 1:08.37 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and a time of 2:29.30 in the 200-yard breaststroke to solidify her two wins in the meet.
In the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Kolbrun Jonsdottir captured a victory of her own, pulling away from the rest of the field and finished with a time of 1:57.28.
The Penguins continued their dominance in the diving portion of the event.
McKenzie Stelter (271.50), Bailey Dipman (248.18) and Bec Stafford (244.80) finished in the top three spots in the 1-meter dive. That success would carry over to the 3-meter dive as Stelter (272.33) and Dipman (227.93) placed in the top two spots in the second diving event. This also earned sophomore McKenzie Stelter two victory's of her own on the day.
YSU will be back in action Nov. 20 when the Penguins compete at the CSU Magnus Invitational.
