Penguins Open Season With Impressive Win Over St. Bonaventure

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team used three event wins each by Viktoria Orosz, Zsani Csado and Madison Aranda while diver McKenzie Stelter had a pair of victories in an impressive 186-112 win over St. Bonaventure on Friday at the Beeghly Center Natatorium.
Orosz won the 200 free, 200 back and 500 free. Aranda won 100 free, 200 butterfly and the 400 IM. Csado finished first in the 100 breaststroke, 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
The Penguins started the meet off on a strong note winning the 200-yard medley relay. YSU won the event with a time of 1:49.63 to score 11 points.
The Penguins finished one-two in the 100-yard freestyle. Aranda took first with an impressive time of 10:37.89. Aranda won the race by almost 16 seconds ahead of teammate Megan Stelpflug who had a time of 10:53.53.
Orosz won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:53.63 edging out St. Bonaventure's Tanja Kirmse in a back-and-forth race. Kirmse had a time of 1:53.94 as both swimmers traded leads throughout the race.
SBU picked up a victory in the 100-yard backstroke as the Guins' Haley Fisher was second in her collegiate debut with a time of 1:00.34.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Csado and Hannah Reynolds finished first and second in the race. Csado finished first with a time of 1:07.87 while Reynolds was just behind at 1:08.26.
Aranda picked up her second win of the evening taking first in the 200-yard butterfly. She had a time of 2:08.75 to beat SBU's Adele Ferris who was second at 2:10.82.
In the 50-yard freestyle, the Penguins had another 1-2 finish as Jonsdottir won with a time of 24.96 seconds while Jana Janson was right behind her at 25.05 seconds.
Csado won for the second time on the night taking first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.41 seconds. Janson placed second once again with a time of 55.24 seconds.
Orosz had another first-place finish winning another tight race in the 200-yard backstroke. Orosz clocked in at 2:08.11 just .66 ahead of Adelyn Graf in the event.
Jonsdottir was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.15.
Orosz finished her strong night with a win in the 500-yard freestyle. It was another good clash with Kirmse, but Orosz touched the wall first with a time of 5:10.38, just .24 seconds ahead of Kirmse.
Csado won her third event of the dual meet posting a time of 58.18 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly, while Fisher was just behind in second place at 59.27 seconds.
In diving, Stelter posted an NCAA Zone C Qualifying mark of 272.10 in the one-meter dive to win by more than 30 points. In the three-meter dive, Stelter won with a score of 255.15 while Bethany Glick finished second at 245.32.
The Guins ended the night on a high note winning the 200 freestyle as well in an impressive time of 1:39.54.
YSU returns to action on Oct. 16 when the swimmers compete at the Tom Stubbs Relays at Bowling Green.
