The Youngstown State men's tennis team plays their first home dual match of the season on Friday against Duquesne. First serve at the Boardman Tennis Center is set for 7 p.m.
The YSU women will also be in action against the Dukes at 7 p.m as well.
The Penguins (0-1) opened the season last Sunday against No. 5 Ohio State. The match marked the YSU dual meet debuts for six of the seven Guins who played. Duquesne enters the match 1-0 after beating Morehead State last week.
Friday evening's contest marks the home debuts for newcomers Remi Chancerel, Hugo Morth, Bassem El Mekawi, Youssef Sherif, Gabriel Tolesani and Victor Pereira.
The lone Penguin from last season's squad who saw action against the Buckeyes was Dawoud Kabli. Fellow senior Silviu Mistreanu is recovering from a shoulder injury and should return to the lineup later this spring.
The Dukes beat the Penguins 5-2 last year in Pittsburgh, but YSU won the dual at the Boardman Tennis Center in April 2013.
It will be the first dual with the new ITA scoring format for the Penguins. Starting this spring, doubles matches will be played to just six points, instead of eight as in the past. Also, once the doubles point is clinched by one team, any match that is still in progress ends.
Also, several scoring tweaks have been made to make singles matches move at a faster pace as well.
YSU plays eight home dual matches this year, with the next contest scheduled for Feb. 6 against Saint Francis (Pa.). The Penguins will play 20 duals this spring.
