Penguins Cruise Past Valparaiso on Friday Afternoon

Valparaiso, Ind. - The Youngstown State women's tennis team improved to 5-2 in Horizon League play with a 7-0 victory over Valparaiso on Friday at the Valpo Tennis Complex.
The Penguins (10-11 overall and 5-2 in the Horizon League) won all six singles matches in straight sets to pick up their second straight victory. Valpo falls to 2-20 and 1-6 on the season.
At No. 1 singles, Margarita Sadovnikova beat Kaitlyn Hamel 6-3, 6-1.
At No. 2, Marta Burak picked up a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Kristin Zakiewicz to remain unbeaten in Horizon League play. At No. 3, Dominika Lackova also remained unbeaten against league foes defeating Paige Heuer 6-2, 6-1.
At No. 4, Annina Brendel defeated Megan Barthels by a 6-1, 6-1 score while at No. 5, Nehel Sahni won by the same score against Michele Fredlake. Senior Carolyn Jesko picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Morgan Paras.
In doubles, Burak teamed up with Lackova for the first time this year in an 8-4 win over Zakiewicz and Hamel at No. 1 while at No. 2, Brendel and Sahni defeated Fredlake and Angelina Goheen by an 8-0 score.
YSU closes out the regular season on Saturday at UIC. A win over the Flames makes the Guins the No. 3 seed at the Horizon League Championships.
