Guins Earn Victory Over Carnegie Mellon On Sunday Morning

Boardman - The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win over Carnegie Mellon on Sunday morning that the Boardman Tennis Center. YSU won the doubles point and four singles matches against the Tartans.
After earning a hard-fought doubles point, Dawoud Kabli, Rodrigo Campos, Max Schmerin and Sebastian Hagn all picked up straight-set singles wins. The victory improves the Penguins to 2-6 and stops at five-match losing streak. CMU falls to 6-3 on the campaign with the loss.
YSU played the dual without No. 1 Silviu Mistreanu who sat out after suffering a shoulder injury on Friday night agasitn IPFW.
To open the dual, No. 1 singles duo of Kabli and Hagn cruised to a 8-0 win over Will Duncan and Kunai Wadwani. However the other two doubles matches went to tiebreakers. At No. 2, Carnegie Mellon prevailed, but the Guins took the point when Schmerin and Sharvil Nawghere earned an 8-7 (7-5) win over Paul Okuda and Yuvraj Kumar.
In singles play, Hagn moved up to the No. 1 spot and earned a solid 6-1, 6-4 victory over Abhishek Alla. Schmerin jumped up to No. 2 in the lineup and earned a straight set, 6-4, 6-2 win over Duncan.
At No. 3, Kabli picked up the first singles win for the Guins dispatching of Kiril Kirkov, 6-1 and 6-1. Campos soon followed with a win at No. 5, beating Kumar, 6-4, 6-3.
The Tartans won the No. 4 and No. 6 matches which were the last two to be completed.
The Penguins are back in action next Sunday when they travel to St. Bonaventure.
