Penguins Swimmers Take On Duquesne; Divers Clash With Clarion
11/6/2014 12:00:00 AM | Swimming and Diving
The Youngstown State swimming and diving team will be in action on Saturday at the Beeghly Center Natatorium. YSU will compete against swimmers from Duquesne and divers from Clarion beginning at 11:30 a.m.
This is the second time this year the Penguins will be competing at home. However, it will be the last dual meet at the Beeghly Center Natatorium until January.
YSU is 3-2 in the dual season this year with wins over Cleveland State, Valparaiso and Niagara. The last time out, the Guins dropped decisions to Oakland and Ohio.
Leading the way so far has been a talented group of newcomers and senior Ashley Dow. Dow has been strong in the backstroke once again while Madison Aranda and Viktoria Orosz have opened the campaign strong in the freestyle events. So far, Orosz has set the school record in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle. Aranda has set the school mark in the 400 IM already.
The divers will compete for the second time this year against a group from nearby Clarion. The Penguins and Eagles first competed against each other at the Clarion Invitational.
The Youngstown State swimming and diving programs would like to thank the official meet sponsors for their support: Dave and Betsy Corrie, Cindy and Tim Glick, Margo Shipp, Therese Stevens, KayeLyn and Robert Beach, Patrick T. Ginnetti and the Simpson-Saladino family.
