Penguins Earn Wins Over Cleveland State and Valparaiso

Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team earned impressive wins over Cleveland State and Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at the Busby Natatorium.
YSU won both relays, nine swimming events and one diving in a complete team performance. Freshmen Viktoria Orosz and Madison Arana along with senior Ashley Dow each won three events.
In the relays, YSU opened the meet by winning the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:59.26. To end a strong performance, YSU won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.17.
Orosz took first in the 1,000-free with a time of 10:20.99. Later in the meet she was first in the 100 free with a time of 53.07 seconds and then won the 500 free with a school-record time of 4:59.99.
Dow finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.76, won the 100-yard back with a time of 59.26 seconds and placed first in the 100-yard butterfly posting a time of 1:00.29
YSU had the top three finishes in the 100-yard fly as Dow was first with a 1:00.29, Rachel Shipp was second at 1:00.71 and Hannah Reynolds finished third with a time of 1:02.07.
Aranda won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.75. Later in the meet, she took first in the 4:33.01 in the 400 IM as well as the 200 free. Her time in the 400 IM was a school record.
Janson won the 50-yard free with a time of 25.18 seconds while Chelsea Malone was third at 25.54 seconds. In the 100 free, Janson was second with a time of 55.58 seconds.
Kolbrun Jonsdottir was second in the 100-yard breast stroke with a time of 1:09.67 while Reynolds was third with a time of 1:09.90.
In the 3-meter, McKenzie Stelter picked up a narrow 1.13 victory over Samantha Sposet. Stelter won the event with a 262.73 while teammate Megan Siford was third at 245.63 and Dipman was fourth at 223.88. In the one-meter, Lydia Scheringer was second with a score of 230.93.
The Penguins are next in action on Halloween when they swim against Oakland and Ohio in Rochester, Mich.
