Ashley Dow Wins Second Event at HL Championships

Chicago, Ill. - Youngstown State sophomore Ashley Dow won her second individual title at the Horizon League Championships on Saturday night, placing first in the 200-yard backstroke at the UIC Natatorium.
Dow set her second school and Horizon League record with a time of 1:58.68 in 200 back winning by two-and-a-half seconds ahead of Milwaukee's Becky Yokosh. Yokosh set the Horizon League mark to beat Dow at last year's conference meet in the 200.
With the win, Dow is the first Penguin swimmer in Division I school history to win two events at a conference meet. On Friday, she set a school and league mark in the 100 back.
Senior Samantha Roberts had a strong night with a career-best third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke. Roberts had a time of 2:18.09 in the event finishing behind Milwaukee's Emily McClellan and UIC's Monica Pinkus.
Additionally, Megan Ciampa who was 14th in the 200 back with a time of 2:08.07, Liseli Baich was 15th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:31.73 and Laura Paz earned a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.72.
Freshman Jana Janson was 13th at 53.44 seconds in the 100 freestyle, Soyriah Davis was 15th in the 100 free at 54.17 seconds and Therese Stevens was 16th at 54.21 seconds in the 100.
In the 1,650 free, Hanna Martin was 18th with a time of 17.59.44. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, YSU was sixth with a time of 3:32.66 to end the meet.
In the standings, YSU scored 343 points to finish sixth. Milwaukee rallied to win the team title with 688.5 points while Cleveland State was second at 657.5 points. Green Bay was third at 647, UIC fourth at 646.5 and Wright State fifth at 391.
