Penguins Conclude First Half of Slate At Magnus Cup Invitational

Cleveland, Ohio - The Youngstown State swimming and diving team concluded the fall portion of its season by competing at Cleveland State's Magnus Cup Invitational over the weekend at the Busby Natatorium.
YSU finished sixth out of seven teams in a very strong field at the event. Buffalo was first, Cleveland State finished second, Xavier was third, Duquesne placed fourth, Ashland was sixth and Saint Francis (Pa.) was seventh.
Ashley Dow led the way for the Penguins in the two backstroke events. Dow was second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.86 seconds, finishing behind Buffalo's Melissa Trail. In the 200-yard backstroke, Dow placed fifth with a time of 2:05.64 after swimming a prelim time of 2:05.15, which was third fastest. In the rare 50-yard backstroke, Dow was third with a time of 26.65 seconds.
Laura Paz placed seventh in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:11.28, she was 10th in the 100-yard free with a time of 58.86 seconds and in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 27.20 seconds.
Megan Ciampa was 12th in the 1,650-yard free with a time of 18:28.84 while Hanna Martin was 13th at 18:36.91. Jana Janson was 12th in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 26.94 seconds.
In the diving, Lydia Scheringer was fifth with a score of 224.25 and Megan Siford placed sixth with a score of 218.30.
