Burak Cruises, Hankle Rallies to Post Wins Over Panthers

Boardman -- Freshman Marta Burak and senior Lauren Hankle picked up victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles against Milwaukee on Friday at the Boardman Tennis Center. The Panthers won the dual 5-2.
Burak posted an impressive 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 over Maddy Soule. With the win Burak improves to 15-8 on the season and 3-0 in Horizon League play.
Hankle improve to 11-8 overall with a victory at No. 2 singles. She defeated the Panthers' Chelsea Bailey 6-4, 6-4. In the second set, Hankle trailed 4-3, but forced a break with the set tied at four and picked up her sixth point on serve. She is now 2-1 in HL play.
At No. 3, Carolyn Jesko dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Christian Colarossi. In action at No. 4, Gimena Puppo retired in the first set trailing Kristin Kurer 5-0 and at No. 5, Jennifer Moore lost 6-0, 6-0 to Brittany Skemp.
In doubles play, the Penguins and Panthers split the two matches that were played. Burak and Jesko won a No. 1 by an 8-6 score while Puppo and Hankle lost 8-4 at No. 2. UWM won the point by winning by default at No. 3.
With the win the Panthers improve to 10-6 overall and 3-0 in the Horizon League. The Penguins drop to 0-13 and 0-3.
YSU returns to action on Saturday at the Tennis Center against Green Bay. The match will start between 5 and 6 p.m. depending on court availability.
